The Wannan Desk + Chair was designed and crafted for a light and open study space that overlooks Palm Beach, Sydney. The intention was to create a dynamic and transparent suite of furniture that would support the user in their work, and in repose while surveying the sweeping ocean views.
The curved framework and cantilevered elements reveal the structure and trace the forces running through each piece, creating an open and lively space beneath the working surface of the desk.
The chair employs several unique methods of weaving paper cord, allowing the traditional Danish weave pattern to span the two sweeping rails which form the backrest.
Together, the desk and chair support the rituals of work and contemplation, while reflecting the qualities of the space that evoke a connection to the coastal environment beyond.
